Hino to go 4x4

More versatility to be built into the light-duty 300 Series

To add to the versatility of Hino’s light-duty 300 Series, the company has confirmed that it will soon be adding 4x4 variants to the range.

Speaking at a press function in Melbourne recently, Hino’s Brand and Franchise Manager Bill Gillespie confirmed that two of the new 4x4s were already operating in Australia as test units.

"We are looking at new product and in 2017 we are going to release a new 4X4 truck onto the Australian market," Mr Gillespie said.

"We already have two vehicles here in testing, one in Kalgoorlie and one in Cairns," he added. "The light-duty trucks will be based on the 300 Series and we are looking at launching at the Brisbane Truck Show in May 2017."

Although Mr Gillespie said that the company was only looking at limited volume of the 4x4s, he said it would be a handy vehicle to have in the range.

"The vehicle would be great for the mining industry, Government departments, firefighting and that sort of thing," he said.

"We’re only looking at a few hundred units per year but it would be great for fleet owners who want to run both 4x2s and 4x4s and are looking at parts and servicing commonality."

The 4x4 will sit alongside the existing 300 Series range, which includes trucks from 4495kg to 8500kg GVM in Standard Cab, Wide Cab, Wide Crew Cab and hybrid configurations with 2525 to 4400mm wheelbases.
