Huge crane truck relies on Scania

In Taiwan's wind energy sector, Chi Deh relies on Scania trucks for intricate wind turbine projects

For decades, Scania trucks have provided robust power and reliability, serving a pivotal role for precision in engineering operations.

Chi Deh Crane Engineering, the largest crane company in Taiwan, and a prominent player in Taiwan's wind energy sector has discovered a crucial partner in Scania trucks.

The crane here is a 90-metre unit coupled to a Scania P450 10x4 chassis. The company is remaining faithful to Scania ordering a new 104-metre range aerial platform for delivery later in 2024.

The five-axle Scania works in the tricky area of wind turbines

Engaging in complex projects including wind turbine repair, maintenance, and the inspection of turbine components, the trucks have proven essential for navigating the complexities of the industry. In collaboration with Giant Heavy Machinery, Chi Deh’s business involves the monumental undertaking of lifting underwater turbine units onto a barge for offshore assembly.

Chi Deh has quoted the big horsepower coupled with low maintenance costs and the strength to carry the big weight of the giant cherry pickers as reasons for choosing Scania trucks. “The low failure rate and high performance of the chassis, significantly improve the efficiency of our engineering operations," said Hu HanYan, Chairman of Chi Deh Crane Engineering.

"The trucks' robustness and relatively cheap parts meant that we seldom needed emergency support services,” he added. Reliability is crucial in the wind energy sector where precision and dependability are paramount.

The drivers appreciate the powerful Scania Euro 6 trucks, particularly their manoeuvrability and sturdy nature.

"The driving experience in the Scania truck is great — comfortable and with plenty of power for the aerial platform application," said driver, Tsai Jung Shian. "Also, I like the service provided by Scania workshops; their assistance is not only helpful but truly professional," he added.

Driving green progress

With a commitment to environmental responsibility, Chi Deh has expressed its intention to transition to Scania electric trucks, aligning with the high-tech industry's demands for low-emission and carbon-reduction vehicles.

This forward-looking approach showcases Chi Deh's dedication to staying at the forefront of both technology and sustainability.
