The partnership was signed off by ATA chair Geoff Crouch and HVIA chair John Drake at the Official Opening breakfast of the 2019 Brisbane Truck Show.
The collaboration will seek to establish a Parliamentary Friends of Trucks, Trailers, Transport and Logistics (PFTTTL) group as a way of improving policy advocacy and elevating the issues of heavy vehicle manufacturers and transport operators.
Key issues the PFTTTL aims to tackle include such topics as maximising productivity, raising the industry profile, solving the skills deficit and improving road safety.
Parliamentary friendships are formally recognised groups, lasting a term of parliament, that aim to bring together politicians from different parties with senators and MPs as members.
The members of HVIA and the ATA will invite Members of the new Parliament to share their daily experience to get a better understanding of the challenges confronting the industry.
HVIA and the ATA, say they will facilitate requests for local factory or dealership tours, drive days or an opportunity to be a passenger in a heavy vehicle as a way of showcasing the trucking industry, its opportunities and its issues.
