The Heavy Vehicle Industry Association (HVIA) has launched a new comprehensive training package as a part of its online Learning Management System (LMS).
The body says 'Heavy Vehicles 101' is ideal for "new entrants to the industry, staff in back-of-house or non-technical roles, and industry stakeholder organisations", providing participants with a "practical overview of the scope of Australia's heavy vehicle industry, types and uses of heavy vehicles, common terminology and how heavy vehicles are regulated in Australia".
According to HVIA Chief Executive, Todd Hacking, the course will help smooth entry to the industry for participants and employers alike.
"We believe this landmark training package will give new industry starters an unheralded amount of information about the broader industry," he said.
"We hope it will become part of every HVIA members' induction process and provides an ongoing learning opportunity for key staff.
"I thank the HVIA members who have already supported this initiative through pictures, content and, in some cases, allowing their staff to pilot the program over the last few weeks."
The course has been received warmly by those pilot participants, says HVIA.
"I liked gaining industry context for the products that my company produces," said Liz Paolacci, Learning & Development Facilitator at MaxiTRANS.
"The course assisted me to understand and further appreciate the industry and therefore the contribution that my company makes."
Meanwhile Tom Blumson-Thiele, Technical Training Manager from CMV Truck & Bus, was also positive.
"I think even people in admin roles who have been in the industry for a number of years would benefit from this course," he said.
Mr Hacking said the course was created with value and affordability in mind.
"We now look to re-formatting our existing face-to-face courses into the online LMS, which will ensure we can provide educational content at a fraction of the existing price, but more importantly the content can be done by staff at their convenience and at work, meaning no lost time off-site," he said.
"Our ability to deliver content is limitless and we will be looking to our members for advice on other short courses that are needed to ensure we raise the bar of the industry in an efficient, affordable, flexible way."
Heavy Vehicles 101 is being launched at a discounted rate of $29 per person (down from $99), with no expiration date once purchased.
