Hyundai XCIENT fuel cell truck makes debut at Brisbane Truck Show

The company’s vision to decarbonise commercial transport is now in Australia for evaluation and real-world fleet trials

Hyundai Motor Company Australia’s spotlight is firmly on zero-emission heavy transport at the 2025 Brisbane Truck Show, as the XCIENT fuel cell truck makes its Aussie debut alongside an updated MIGHTY electric truck.

The XCIENT, which has already been deployed in 13 countries, is now in Australia for a comprehensive program of evaluation, technical assessment and real-world fleet trials. This initiative marks a critical step in HMCA’s mission to grow the Australian hydrogen mobility sector.

The XCIENT is the world’s first mass-produced, heavy-duty truck powered by hydrogen. It has a 350kW/2237Nm electric motor, delivering robust performance while emitting only water vapour. Range is approximately 400km, and it can be refuelled in under 20 minutes. Fuel cell output is 180kW via two 90kW fuel cell stacks.

Long-term plans for the XCIENT include integrating it into Australia's growing hydrogen economy, supported by local green hydrogen production projects.

Initially launched in Australia in 2023, the MIGHTY electric truck is now available in two Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM) options: a 4.5-tonne variant suitable for drivers with a standard car license, and a 7.3-tonne model requiring a truck license.

There are also multiple body configurations for the EV, which has a 114.5kWh lithium-ion battery, delivering a range of up to 200km when fully loaded. The 120kW motor has 320Nm of torque.

“Hyundai’s unveiling of XCIENT Fuel Cell and the enhanced MIGHTY Electric at the 2025 Brisbane Truck Show highlights our dedication to leading Australia's shift towards sustainable commercial transport,” said HMCA Head of Commercial Vehicles and Fleet, Martin Him.

“With a focus on innovation and environmental responsibility, Hyundai continues to develop solutions that meet the evolving needs of the transport industry.

“As Hyundai continues its global leadership in eco mobility, the launch of XCIENT Fuel Cell Truck in Australia is a defining moment. It represents more than just a new product: it is a call to action for industry, government, and energy sectors to embrace a cleaner, smarter transport future.

“Through continuous investment in battery-electric and hydrogen fuel cell technologies, Hyundai aims to lead the transition to low-emissions transport in Australia and beyond.”
