Industry’s leading lights lauded

The ATA National Trucking Industry Awards were announced at the recent Trucking Australia 22 conference

The achievements of some of the trucking industry’s ‘best and brightest’ individuals and organisations have been celebrated at the Australian Trucking Association’s National Trucking Industry Awards.

Announced on May 6 during the gala dinner held at the close of the ATA’s Trucking Australia 22 conference at The Star on Queensland’s Gold Coast, the awards shine a light on those people and companies who go ‘above and beyond’ in carrying out their role, and in this instance through all the difficulties and challenges wrought on the trucking industry by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Martin Merrick, President, Volvo Group Australia, welcomed Trucking Australia 22 delegates to the Gala Dinner and National Trucking Industry Awards.

“It’s a testament to the resilience of our industry that we gather once again for the 2022 Foundation Sponsors Awards Gala Dinner,” said ATA Chair, David Smith.

“We’ve had everything thrown at us over the past two years but we’ve got on with the job. People in the trucking industry don’t expect reward or recognition but we believe they deserve to be celebrated. The National Trucking Industry Awards give us the chance to recognise these people and organisations and celebrate everything they’ve achieved.”

ATA Chair David Smith closed proceedings at the Gala Dinner.

The winners of the National Trucking Industry Awards are as follows:

>> Trucksafe John Kelly Memorial Award: A & R Magill Pty Ltd

>> National Professional Driver of the Year: Denis Thompson, Thompson Removals
>> Outstanding Contribution to the Australian Trucking Industry: Phillip Hodges, Transport Certification Services
>> Don Watson Memorial Award: Darren Nolan, Nolan’s Interstate Transport
