Initial RSRO now in effect

The Road Safety Remuneration's first Road Safety Remuneration Order has passed into law
The Road Safety Remuneration Tribunal (RSRT) is reminding truck operators that its first Road Safety Remuneration Order (RSRO), which it made in December last year, becomes law from today – May 1, 2014.
The RSRO sets out the minimum entitlements and requirements for specified road transport drivers, as well as their employers or hirers, and also relates to other members of the supply chain.
It also requires transport companies to provide their drivers with a written contract outlining the terms of their employment or contract (this can also be supplied in an electronic format), with records to be maintained for a minimum of seven years.
Companies must now have also implemented a written drug and alcohol policy.
The RSRO, which runs until April 30, 2018, mandates 30-day payment terms for drivers.
The report following the Federal Government’s recent review of the RSRT is yet to be released.
For more information on the RSRO visit www.rsrt.gov.au.
