International ProStar looming

American trucking icon set for first-quarter return to our shores
Iveco Australia has confirmed that International will make its historic return to the Australian market in the first quarter of 2017, with an Aussie-spec ProStar available in a range of formats and cabs to suit a variety of local applications.
Trucks can be ordered in day cab, extended cab and full-size sleeper cab configurations, in a choice of five wheelbases.
Powered by an E5 Cummins X15 SCR engine producing 550hp and 2508Nm, the ProStar will be available with either a manual or fully automatic Eaton transmission.
Iveco Australia says the ProStar is well suited to tipper and dog, single-trailer line-haul and 34-pallet B-double work.

First shown at the 2015 Brisbane Truck Show, International was initially to be distributed here under the Navistar Auspac umbrella, with the ProStar to go on sale in early 2016. However, internal wrangling and the establishment of the local dealer network has seen the timeline for International's return blow out, while the distribution rights passed to CNH Industrial – Iveco Australia's parent – last October.

Now it appears it's full steam ahead for International's return, with the marque poised to return to the historic Dandenong facility in Melbourne from which it disappeared in the early 1990s.
Iveco Australia says it will announce its International dealer network in the New Year, and stresses that it will continue to sell its locally developed and built Powerstar range for customers who prefer a European driveline.
