Isuzu edge at Allied Express

At national and expanding logistics specialist Allied Express, Isuzu trucks are a popular option for many sub-contractors

Established in 1978, the pandemic sparked a major period of growth for delivery giant, Allied Express, which recently led to the establishment of a new head office and distribution centre near Sydney’s Bankstown Airport.

The massive consumer shift to online shopping has led to a seismic shift for courier companies, requiring Allied Express to invest in new technology and infrastructure to cope with the booming demand.

Advanced sorting and distribution

The firm’s new state-of-the-art automated sorting and distribution system at Bankstown has been purposefully designed to handle bulk volume, large and oddly shaped items, but the efficiency focus also flows through to Allied’s massive and varied truck fleet.

Allied Express drivers are supported with in-house developed software and GPS-tracking systems, and equipped with the latest in PDAs, PODs and sign-on-glass technology.

Allied Express Managing Director Michelle McDowell says the company has invested heavily in the latest tech and infrastructure as online shopping has boomed

As for the preferred truck for the job, Allied Express Managing Director Michelle McDowell says the company’s size and variety of work means there’s no one ideal vehicle, although Isuzu remains a popular choice among the firm’s many sub-contractors.

“Our fleet consists of a wide variety of trucks, because we do such a gauntlet of different delivery types,” she says.

“Reliability and presentation are very important for Allied Express as our customers put their trust in us to deliver the product on their behalf… it is important for all drivers to keep their vehicles well-presented and for them to be proud of their work.”

Jack Singh says his 2022 Isuzu FSR delivers on all fronts

Isuzu advantage

For driver Jack Singh, who carries out deliveries throughout metropolitan Sydney and occasionally further afield, the source of that pride is his late 2022 Isuzu FSR 140-260, which he purchased from Dwyers Truck Centre.

“It’s a fantastic truck,” he says. “I wanted this specific body length and size, which makes it perfect for my everyday routine.”

The truck has an extended 9.0m wheelbase and a 2.6m clearance, striking a perfect blend of payload and productivity. The six-speed Allison auto transmission makes light work of busy Sydney traffic, while the custom airbag suspension delivers a smooth ride for both Jack and the goods he’s delivering.

A choice of custom media doors at the rear provides optimum access and a professional presentation. Adding to this, a freshly minted chrome grille plus matching air deflector and accents makes for a very proudly presented unit.

Top backup

As any subbie is acutely aware, minimising downtime is key to running a profitable enterprise. Isuzu Trucks offers Jack peace of mind with a long warranty and six years of roadside assistance, along with a service agreement package secured through Dwyers Truck Centre.

“I’ve got a six-year warranty on this new truck and a service agreement from the dealer,” Jack says.

“This means that if I get a job overnight, I just have to put the keys in the ignition and away I go and I know that I’m covered anywhere in Australia with the nationwide warranty.”
