A work-related injury transformed Steve McClintock from long-haul truck driver to short-order cook.
The Queensland driver is based in Ayr and realised late-night revellers didn’t have many options when it came to finding decent fare on the streets.
McClintock turned to Patterson Cheney and A&B Food Truck Outfitters Australia for advice and ended up with an Isuzu NPR 65-190 as his restaurant on wheels, trading as Com N’ Get It.

“Both the teams at A&B and Patterson Cheney recommended that I go with the Isuzu NPR based on the specifications I need for the food truck. And to be honest, I am so glad they did,” McClintock says. “This baby of mine is excellent on the road; it’s smooth and easy to drive. It has a six-speed AMT and the manoeuvrability is great, I love it.”
The fit-out includes a body with a 4.3m x 2.4m kitchen, containing three sinks, a hot water system, fryers, a fridge, freezers, and a 7kVA generator.
The NPR65-190 has a gross vehicle mass of 6500 kg and delivers 140kW at 2600rpm and 513Nm from 1600–2600rpm, making it more than capable of carrying big loads.
McClintock obviously has a taste for business: since Com N’ Get It launched in August 2017 it has expanded from a one-man show to a staff of three.

“This past year has been a lesson in running a food truck business. From dealing with a wide variety of people, training new staff, dealing with equipment breakdowns … It’s been a busy year,” McClintock says. “But despite all the hiccups, my truck has never disappointed and has always been reliable with no downtime issues at all, which is vital in this business.”
“And knowing that I have Isuzu Care service, I know I don’t have to worry about a breakdown!”
