Isuzu joins forces with Outtasite Mobile Welding

Outtasite is a well-established mobile welding company operating out of Margate in Hobart’s south that is renowned for the skill and dedication of owner and Director, Brendon Wass, otherwise known as Wassy.

Wassy is a veteran welder and general handyman who has been applying his considerable skill in and around the Hobart area for more than a decade.

Focused primarily on mobile welding repair and field service work, Outtasite also offer small scale building services and carpentry work for all manner of jobs large and small.

Be it fabricating an excavation attachment or repairing plant equipment in the regions, Brendon’s ability to get just about any job done is becoming well known.

But Brendon’s not alone in this venture.

His wife Amanda is at the heart of the business, taking care of the back end, the paperwork and overall strategic direction of this growing family business.

Amanda explained, “Wassy does a lot of odds and sods. Welding, of course, earth moving, repairs…he can do it all.

“This week he’s building a deck for a previous customer who loved his work.

“We haven’t really had to advertise too much, it’s all word of mouth, which has been great.”

A Truck For All Seasons

With business booming and Outtasite’s reputation growing serious legs, Amanda and Wassy made the decision to purchase an NPS 75-155 4x4 cab chassis back in 2021, the first new vehicle the couple had ever purchased.

“Of course, our first ever new vehicle was a truck!” Amanda said.

The truck is the first new vehicle that the duo have ever purchased.

A tried and tested staple of Isuzu’s famed 4x4 offering, the rugged NPS 75-155 is a serious set-up designed to tackle environments and conditions most trucks wouldn’t dream of approaching.

“Brendon finds himself in some pretty random and inaccessible locations around Tassie,” Amanda reflected.

He’s in safe hands though. The NPS 75-155 with Isuzu’s automated manual transmission is Australia’s first two-pedal 4x4 light duty truck and is extremely popular with Australia’s emergency services and fire-fighting community.

Featuring a GVM of 4500kg and a GCM of 9000kg, the NPS has towing capacity of 4500kg, meaning all of Wassy’s towing and payload needs are met and exceeded.

Powered by Isuzu’s four-cylinder 4HK1-TCN engine, the NPS has plenty of punch at 114kW (155 horsepower) at 2600rpm and torque of 419Nm at 1600 – 2600rpm.

The truck features a crane fitted to a custom-built tray, put together by none other than Wassy himself.

“I tell people the truck was made by a welder for a welder,” said Amanda.

“He knew exactly how he wanted it, and he likes things to be perfect.

Sign Of The Times

Despite not relying too much on advertising, Amanda, Wassy and their mobile welding truck were recently plastered across a giant billboard in Hobart, after the business won the Tasmanian division of the Isuzu 50th Anniversary Billboard Competition.

“We’re really happy with the billboard. It was a fantastic opportunity,” Amanda said.

“We took our young son out to see it and he was so excited, he said “Oh wow, it’s Mummy and Daddy… and the truck!'”

Wassy has been plying his trade for more than a decade, after completing an apprenticeship with the Tasmanian Fire Service. His tenure and experience are well known and his eye for detail and hard work are renowned in the area.

With Amanda’s knack for business strategy, Wassy’s deft hand on the tools and the recent addition of the NPS 75-155, Outtasite will continue to go from strength to strength.
