Co-operative Intelligent Transport Systems (C-ITS) and truck telematics will unlock a wide array of benefits for transport operators, says Isuzu Australia Limited.
IAL says looming advances in the field of C-ITS will see highly connected vehicles make great advances in efficiency, with drivers, dispatch staff and fleet and service managers able to communicate more effectively with their own vehicles, and vehicles able to communicate with each other and road infrastructure.
Truck telematics gives fleet operators a vast amount of powerful data – data with which they can monitor a vehicle's mechanical condition, fuel usage, location and more.
IAL has already embraced this technology with its cutting-edge Isuzu Telematics system, which is now available for all Isuzu truck models both new and old.
While allowing fleet operators to further enhance the efficiency of their business, IAL says telematics can also ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
Federal and state governments agreed to the development of a national C-ITS framework in 2011 and a number of universities and well-equipped specialist companies are working to advance the technology.
IAL says the dissemination of accurate information will be crucial to a smooth transition to a connected road freight industry, while stressing the need for truck drivers and road freight businesses to keep abreast of the rapid changes in this area so they can reap the rewards.
