Among the highlights at Isuzu’s stand at the recent 2014 International Truck, Trailer & Equipment Show (ITTES) was this FYJ 2000 8x4 Medium Auto concrete agitator – a model Isuzu Australia Limited (IAL) says it’s “optimised” to meet the particular needs of this market niche.
The model features a 713mm shorter wheelbase than the Medium wheelbase version and subsequently a reduced tare weight.
Further weight-saving measures have been employed by adopting light Alcoa alloy wheels and 11R22.5 Yokohama tyres, and swapping out the standard 400-litre fuel tanks for smaller, more compact items. Isuzu says the optimised model primarily operates in high-density urban environments and so doesn’t require the larger tanks.
The model retains its six-speed Allison HD 4430 automatic transmission, Hendrickson airbag rear suspension, and driver-controlled differential cross locks.
Safety features include ABS and a driver SRS airbag, along with an ECE-R29-compliant cab and Front Underrun Protection Device, while creature comforts span Isuzu’s Digital Audio Visual Entertainment (DAVE) system with 15.7cm touchscreen, CD/DVD player, digital radio, AM/FM tuner, and Bluetooth-equipped communications with audio streaming and voice command.
IAL’s Chief Engineer, Product Strategy, Simon Humphries, says the optimised agitator has much to offer discerning buyers.
“The lower tare weight achieved through optimisation of this model will allow customers greater flexibility and enhanced payload-bearing potential, while not compromising on power and performance,” he said.
The organiser of the 2014 ITTES obviously agreed, its independent judges awarding the Isuzu FYJ 2000 8x4 the title of ‘Truck of the Show’ in the 2014 Expo Awards.
