Isuzu start for United Driver Training

A fledgling truck-driving school in Queensland is off to a flying start with its first vehicle: an Isuzu FXZ 1500
The owner of a new truck driver training school in Gladstone, Queensland, says his new Isuzu FXZ 1500 was the ideal choice to help him establish the business.
Adam Van Vegchel, founder of United Driver Training, said the Isuzu truck – equipped with an Eaton RTO 11908LL manual gearbox – ticked all his boxes.
"Firstly, I needed a crash 'box, which is what the students need to learn in," he said.
"I needed something which was strong and gave the students a realistic experience of what they can expect in the workforce.
"Of course many new trucks sold these days are fitted with automatic and automated manual transmissions, but there are plenty out there that are manual and not all have synchro transmissions."
Van Vegchel says the FXZ 1500 is up to the abuse typically dished out by leaner drivers while being comfortable and capable.
"Everything that I wanted in a truck came stock-standard, such as the digital audio system and cruise control," he said.
The model also features anti-lock brakes, airbags, and an ISRI 6860 driver's seat, along with a tray capable of hauling concrete blocks to simulate a heavy load.
The only truck-driver-training organisation in the Queensland city, Van Vegchel says the business is off to solid start
"Things are going pretty well; we’ve got plans to add another truck," he said.
