ITTES: Isuzu unveils telematics systems

Isuzu Australia Limited has launched two new telematics packages at the 2014 International Truck, Trailer & Equipment Show

Vehicle telematics is a hotbed of activity in the truck industry these days and now Isuzu Australia Limited has joined the fray, revealing its new Isuzu Telematics technology at Melbourne’s 2014 International Truck, Trailer & Equipment show.

Available in the standard ‘Isuzu Telematics Connect’ or the more comprehensive ‘Isuzu Telematics Connect Plus’, each provides real-time vehicle tracking and monitoring systems and offers features such as vehicle tracking, journey playback, mileage monitoring, service alerts and scheduling, theft alert, arrival notification and more.

For added safety there’s also a driver assistance button, while a two-way driver messaging system will be added shortly.

According to IAL Chief Engineer, Simon Humphries, the system will give fleet operators far more control, in turn unlocking significant savings.

“Optimising the results of telematics reporting will equip operators with the necessary tools to increase productivity and reduce fuel and operational costs,” he said.

“It will also encourage positive driver behaviour and safe practices through the monitoring of driver accelerating and braking habits, speed, and route adherence.

“Isuzu Telematics Connect Plus offers operators more in-depth engine monitoring data, including fuel consumption, over-revving information and vehicle diagnostics, providing even greater performance improvement potential.”

IAL Marketing Manager, Jeff Birdseye (pictured), says the technology will revolutionise fleet operation in coming years.

“We know we’re raising the bar with this new program,” he said.

“With Isuzu Telematics in play we’re going to see safer truck drivers on the road, and businesses will benefit long-term from lower overall fleet operating costs and improved service efficiencies.”

The technology has been developed in partnership with Isuzu and has been designed for local Australian conditions.

Isuzu says the telematics modules can also be installed on older Isuzu models and indeed on trucks of any brand, allowing operators in charge of fleets of a broad composition to reap the benefits of the technology.
