A superb example of a 1987 Mack Superliner 2 has emerged triumphant from the first Show & Shine event at the 2014 International Truck, Trailer & Equipment Show, held in Melbourne over April 3-6.
Owners of the Mack dubbed ‘The Thunder Rolls’, Justin and Loretta Clein, made the trek from their home in Chinchilla, Queensland, and were thrilled to come away with the main trophy.
The inaugural staging of the Show & Shine attracted quality entries from all over the country, with several dozen trucks polished to perfection in an attempt to win hearts and minds – and judges’ votes.
Hosted by magazines Australian Custom Trucks and Bling’d Up Trucks over the two public days of the ITTES, the event drew admiring truck enthusiasts all through the weekend, with the various category winners announced on the Saturday afternoon.
‘Best Buffed Beast’ went to Sean Craig for his 2011 Kenworth Big Cab K200, ‘Monkey and the Bear’, while ‘Best Custom Truck’ went to Laurie Read for his International Load Star, ‘Big ZZZ’.
‘Best Paint Work’ went to Kutchel Contractors for its 2012 Western Star 4900. The firm also took out the ‘Best Over 10’ class with its 1954 Ford C.O.E., ‘De-stress Express’.
‘Best Interior’ went to Andrea Crawford for her 2010 Peterbilt 388, ‘Miss Liberty Bells’, while ‘Best Under 10’ and ‘People’s Choice’ went to Anthony Latorre and his Kenworth K200, ‘Mean Green Machine’.
Prizes worth nearly $5000 were provided for the winners, with first prize – an aluminium fifth wheel from SAF-Holland – valued at over $3000.
The organiser of the Show & Shine, Chris Smith, thanked everyone who made the inaugural event the success it was.
“I would like to give a massive thanks to all the entrants who brought their trucks to the inaugural ITTES Show & Shine,” he said.
“I would also like to thank our generous sponsors and all the people that came by to admire the trucks.
“Special thanks go to the ITTES for helping us get the Show & Shine off the ground; I’m guessing the event will grow substantially in two years’ time with even more great quality trucks.”
