Iveco has premiered the zero-impact ‘Z TRUCK’ concept at the recent 2016 IAA Show in Hannover
Iveco’s new concept truck boasts a host of 'zeros' in its design which is in collaboration with CNH Industrial’s Design Centre and Innovation department. The concept provides insight into future transport trends, by anticipating the way alternative energy, new technologies and automated driving will be incorporated into long-haul vehicles in years to come.
Along with the ‘Zero’ reference to the truck’s CO2 emissions, the reference carries through to other elements including zero accidents through the use of automated driving technologies, and the driver-centred design also aims to achieve zero stress and zero down time.
The truck features a vastly enhanced aerodynamic presence, improved safety functions, redesigned interior cabin spaces and a target of virtually zero CO2 emissions. Its pioneering approach has resulted in this concept being protected by 29 patents.
The vehicle is based on a heavy truck running on Bio-LNG (liquefied natural gas), and a waste heat recovery system, to deliver long-haul transport with autonomy of 2200 kilometres.
The cab is freed from traditional constraints to be reconfigured according to the different uses (driving, automated driving, office work, rest) and the HMI (Human Machine Interface) to adapt the way it provides information as needed – the right information, at the right time, in the right place.
Iveco Australia Marketing Manager, Darren Swenson, said that the commercial vehicle industry was in the midst of great technological change, citing Iveco’s successful involvement this year in the World’s first truck platooning challenge along with the ‘Iveco Vision’ van previewed in 2015.
"There is no doubt that the commercial vehicle sector as a whole is pushing the boundaries of technology for a more sustainable industry and Iveco is at the forefront of the innovation," Mr Swenson said.
"In recent years, there has been a blurring between fiction and reality as more and more of the concepts that were considered to be nothing more than fanciful, now increasingly becoming mainstream reality.
"Iveco and parent company CNH Industrial is showing a real commitment towards innovation for the betterment of the transport industry, drivers and the wider community."
