A new app from Trans-Help Foundation is narrowing the gap between truck drivers and medical professionals by putting a range of health services and information at truckies' fingertips via their iPhone or iPad.
Trans-Help Foundation is a national Australian charity that provides support to transport workers and their families.
Proudly supported by Iveco Australia, the app includes a link to 'GP2U' to provide fast contact with medical staff, as well as a video function that gives drivers a direct face-to-face video link with a counsellor.
There's also a daily listing of industry news and a traffic notifications feature that allows drivers to re-route their journey to avoid incidents, plus an activity tracker to help drivers monitor their daily physical activity.
Launched at the 2015 Brisbane Truck Show last May, the CEO of Trans-Help Foundation, Dianne Carroll, said the app has been met with very positive feedback.
"The App has been well received and we know it's going to be a valuable addition to the work that Trans-Help undertakes with transport personnel and their families," she said.
"Even if it's not regularly used, I encourage drivers and others in the industry to download the app and have it on hand, just in case they do ever need support."
Iveco Australia has been supporting Trans-Help Foundation for many years, with the charity using Iveco Daily vans as mobile health units since 2008. Today four Daily vans are in service with the charity, helping Trans-Help Foundation carry out health checks for drivers and transport company staff.
"The Iveco vans are fantastic, and our sponsorship with BP also allows us to travel far and wide without having to worry about the cost of diesel," Dianne said.
"As well as undertaking the health checks, the vans are used to visit clients following an accident to provide counselling and support to the driver.
"Often a truck driver will be the first person at a scene of a dangerous accident and are obviously affected by the road trauma they experience. Our strong relationships with companies such as Iveco allow us to keep doing important work for the industry."
The new Trans-Help app is free and available for download now – simply visit Apple's App Store and search for 'Transhelp'.
