Iveco says its recently updated Daily range of light commercial vehicles are finding favour in Australia's cut-throat food truck market, where they are prized for both their safety and their ability to be customised.
Standard safety equipment includes four airbags and front and rear disc brakes with ABS and an 'ESP 9' stability control package, the latter also comprising rollover mitigation, trailer sway mitigation, hill holder, hydraulic brake assist, hydraulic rear wheel boost, hydraulic fading compensation and adaptive load control.
Andrew, of food truck specialist A & B Food Truck Outfitters, says today's food trucks are high-spec affairs, with most operators now running extremely professional set-ups requiring sign-off from state regulatory bodies.
"We build food trucks for people Australia-wide, so we ensure we are up to date with every State's rules and regulations," he says.
"Depending on the food being prepared, typical equipment lists includes hot plates, chargrills, fryers, fridges and freezes. These appliances are of course complemented with sinks, hot water units, water tanks, generators and more.
"The build all takes place in-house – we provide a complete turn-key service from conception all the way through to graphic designing and applying the vinyl wrap."
Proof of the company's work is found in its latest award: the firm scooped the 2016 Australian Achiever Award – Best Food Truck, scoring 99.79 out of 100 after judges surveyed A & B's past customers.
Andrew says Iveco and its Daily have played a significant role in that success.
"Iveco has been excellent to deal with and provides great products and support, which is important to our overall business," he says.
Dean Jeftic recently upgraded from an old trailer to an A & B-prepared Iveco Daily to sell his fine Chevapi sausages, and says he hasn't looked back.
"The trailer was difficult to tow, the weight distribution wasn't ideal and then once on site at the markets or at private functions, there often wasn't a lot of room for manoeuvring," Dean says.
"I also needed more space and a professional set-up to try and grow the business."
After doing his research Dean settled on A & B, and Andrew's recommendation of an Iveco Daily.
"Andrew and the team were great to deal with – they were very supportive, gave excellent advice and had a strong network within the food truck industry I could call on," Dean says.
"Along with this great service from A & B, I'm also very happy with the Daily – I love it. The truck is easy to drive and with the auto transmission and safety features it's like a big car."
