Iveco helps special needs kids

Local truck company comes to the party for 3000 children
Christmas has come early for some special needs kids and their carers, with the Melbourne installment of ‘Christmas Party for Special Children’ drawing big big crowds to Moonee Valley Racecourse last Sunday (December 10).
The parties, which are held in all capital cities and several regional areas each year, cater to children with special needs, from those with physical and intellectual disabilities to others living with illness, who are victims of neglect or who act as carers for other family members.
Iveco Australia is a long time major sponsor of the Melbourne event, and as part of this year’s involvement, displayed its new Iveco Daily 4x4 and Stralis AS-L trucks, allowing party-goers a close-up look and the chance to get inside the vehicles.
Project manager of the Melbourne function, Genece Cavanagh, says that the trucks are always a popular attraction at the parties.
"For the kids there were a great variety of activities to enjoy, exciting entertainment to see and participate in, and giveaways to be had – the scope of attractions is testament to all the generous sponsors who get involved," Genece said.

"The parties require a lot of planning and support but each year they get better and better thanks to the many community-minded organisations that get behind us and share the load.

"The Iveco trucks always prove popular, with the kids scrambling into them for a chance to get behind the steering wheel, they’re virtually like an amusement ride for them!"

Iveco Marketing Manager, Darren Swenson, says Christmas Party for Special Kids was a great opportunity to play a small role in the community event, and to spread some festive cheer among kids who were doing it tough.

"Going by the smiles on the faces of the children we saw on Sunday, it seemed they didn’t have a care in the world when in reality most were facing serious health concerns and other difficult circumstances," Mr Swenson said.

"To get involved in such an event and help the children forget about their difficulties for the day and allow them to just be kids, is very worthwhile – it’s an event that Iveco Australia is very pleased to assist with."

It’s estimated that over 3000 children and carers attended Sunday’s event, making it one of the most successful and well attended ever.
