Iveco introduces 2017 Daily

Cosmetic and functional enhancements plus value packs to suit differing markets
In Melbourne this week, Iveco showed the Australian trucking media the latest incarnation of the Daily van and cab/chassis range.
Although the changes were considered at best subtle, some are significant and add to the appeal of the Daily which is rapidly growing in acceptance in the competitive light van and cab/chassis markets.
Improvements to NVH and fuel consumption head the list of functional improvements while a new grille and interior style enhancements including more storage and improved colour schemes give the new Daily a more ‘professional’ appeal.
In other new additions, a ‘run lock’ option is now available for applications including emergency service work and refrigerated transport. The function allows the vehicle to continue operating to keep the fridges running and emergency equipment on stand-by while occupants are away from the vehicle.
But what we like are the new ‘Value Packs’ that can be ordered with the Daily. These add to the already extensive list of feature you get in a Daily and give the purchaser an opportunity to personalise the truck or van without having to custom order it. This means that it can be optioned locally without a long waiting period.
Speaking at the launch at Iveco’s HQ and manufacturing facility in the Melbourne suburb of Dandenong, Product Manager, Marco Quaranta, said introductions as part of 2017MY Daily range sought to build on the previous model’s already high features and benefits.
“We believe that it is important for the driver to have a comfortable and quiet environment to work as well as lots of storage – in-cabin storage is not only convenient, it’s a safety issue to not have things falling around the cab."
On the issue of safety Mr Quaranta added that the new Daily also has lane departure warning as part of the Daily’s Efficiency Pack.
Also on the safety front, the 4x2 Daily’s list of standard equipment includes a range of active safety equipment including electronic brake force distribution, electronic stability program, anti-slip regulator and other driving aids.
Added to that are front and rear disc brakes with ABS, four airbags and daytime running lights.
New to the 2017 range is an optional Lane Departure Warning (LDW) system which uses radar to warn the driver if the vehicle is moving from its lane, reducing the chance of collision. LDW can be chosen as part of the Daily ‘Efficiency’ Pack
Packs for pros
Iveco is justifiably proud of the packs it is offering customers which consist of the Business Premium Pack, the Comfort Pack and the Efficiency Pack.
The packs can be ordered singularly or in combination to best suit the needs of the owner or fleet operator.
Ideal for courier and pick-up and delivery work, particularly in metropolitan and urban environments, Business Premium includes items such as rear view camera, Iveconnect multimedia system with GPS, reverse buzzer and integrated fog lights.
With the Business Premium Pack selected, owners can then further up-spec their Daily by adding either a Comfort or Efficiency Pack, or both.
The Comfort Pack adds a heated suspension driver’s seat with armrest and automatic climate control system.
The third pack targets efficiency and includes features that help further cut the cost of running a Daily van or cab/chassis.
The Efficiency Pack provides increased payload and allows for optimum carrying capacity for those who need it.
A feature of this Pack is the Ecoswitch function which is designed for use when the vehicle is only lightly loaded or unladen, once pressed, the Eco-switch reduces vehicle torque leading to reduced fuel consumption.
The Efficiency Pack also introduces stop/start that turns off the engine when you’re in traffic, and the lane departure warning system. Iveco Australia Marketing Manager, Darren Swenson, said the availability of the new option packs would appeal to prospective Daily buyers.
“The new pack options allow buyers to more closely align their van or cab chassis specification with the application at hand and to enjoy the cost benefits of grouping several of these options,” Swenson said.
“Also, some buyers may prefer an entry-level package that although is still well specified, doesn’t have features that they might not want or need – we can now better cater to these people and provide them Daily ownership at a lower price point," he added.
