Iveco Australia is now a regular sight at V8 Supercars rounds, as the brand has signed on this season as an official partner of Red Bull Racing Australia.
As such the brand has provided two Iveco Stralis prime movers to the team, the trucks charged with safely and efficiently transporting the Holden VF Commodore race cars campaigned by six-time V8 Supercar Champion, Jamie Whincup, and former Australian Touring Car Champion and five-time Bathurst 1000 winner, Craig Lowndes.
Iveco took over from MAN to assume race transporter duties for Red Bull Racing Australia for this season, with the Triple Eight Race Engineering-backed outfit relying on the two Stralis trucks to take the team and its equipment to race meetings around the country.
Decked out in a stunning custom livery laid on by Queensland's Bel Air Truck Spraypainting, the trucks are powered by 13-litre Cursor engines that produce a claimed 560hp and 2500Nm, albeit without the top speed of their rather-more-sporty four-wheeled contents.
The trucks' drivers get a slightly easier deal behind the wheel compared to Lowndes and Whincup, too, thanks to the Eurotronic II transmission – a 16-speed automated manual transmission that simplifies life on the road.
Electronic Controlled Air Suspension (ECAS) isolates the trucks' precious contents from the bumps and potholes, while the trucks also benefit from antilock brakes and traction control.
Both Iveco and Triple Eight Race Engineering say they're very excited about the new relationship, which saw the prime movers prepared and delivered by Iveco’s Brisbane dealership. And with Whincup and Lowndes currently sitting first and third on the points table respectively after three rounds, both organisations have plenty to cheer about.
