Iveco on display at AFAC

New models will be at the Australian Fire and Emergency Services Authorities Council conference in Brisbane from Aug 30
Iveco Australia will showcase its emergency service capabilities by displaying three vehicles at this year’s annual Australian Fire and Emergency Services Authorities Council (AFAC) conference at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre from August 30 to September 1.
Among the vehicles on display will be the recently-launched
Iveco Daily 4x4, a Daily 4x2 ‘Smart Ambulance’ Van specially prepared by the Byron Group and a Eurocargo ML140 featuring an innovative Magirus body and ‘Team Cab’.
With the previous generation Daily 4x4 already in use with several firefighting bodies nationwide, the latest model brings additional comfort levels to what is arguably the most capable light duty 4x4 truck available in Australia.
Available in a car licence 4495kg or optional 5500kg GVM, and in both single and dual cab variants, the new Euro6 Daily 4x4 features a permanent mechanical 4x4 system with centre, front and rear differential locks as standard.
Iveco says that for firefighting and emergency support appliances, the Daily 4x4 in dual cab guise and at its higher 5500kg GVM rating, can accommodate the water carrying capacity and equipment required to support a fully operational fire crew.
The Iveco Smart Ambulance is built on the award-winning Daily 35S which is available in three engine ratings up to 147kW (205hp) and torque of 470Nm.
Other benefits include a ZF eight-speed full automatic transmission and the latest safety features including driver, passenger and curtain airbags along with ‘ESP9’ braking system which includes Electronic Brake force Distribution, Electronic Stability Program, Anti Slip Regulator and a host of additional driver aids.
Inside, the van has been fully equipped to improve functionality and support for paramedics and to provide new levels of care for patients, starting with a 1900mm internal height which allows easy access and the ability to stand in the back.
Among its other key features is a constant communication platform which communicates patient conditions with hospitals so they can be fully up-to-date on arrival.
The third vehicle on the Iveco stand is the Eurocargo ML 140 4x2 equipped with a Magirus HLF10 Tank Pumper Super Structure with Team Cab.
Magirus is a sister brand of Iveco and a dedicated manufacturer of firefighting appliances, most of which are fitted to Iveco cab chassis.
This state-of-the-art appliance is equipped with a 2,000l/m pump, 2,000-litre water tank, 100-litre foam tank, quick attack hose reel, electronic ladder lowering system and stowage areas, and will shortly go into service with New Zealand Fire Services.
The Iveco ML140 cab chassis features a 5.9 litre engine producing 251hp (185kW) and 850Nm of torque and is coupled to an Allison five-speed automatic transmission.
Iveco product spokesperson, Joel Read, says the brand’s AFAC display would provide attendees with just a small glimpse of Iveco’s emergency service capabilities.
"The Smart Ambulance is a future ambulance platform that provides the next level of integration between the vehicle, home base and all the fitout components to give a greater level of control, communication and efficiency," Mr Read said.
"We’re very excited at displaying this technology at AFAC in partnership with the Byron Group.
"For many years, Iveco has been a leading supplier of trucks and vans for emergency service applications in Europe and in other parts of the world and is very well regarded in these fields.

"Iveco’s close association and relationship in particular with Magirus, offers customers a customised, turn-key solution to their appliance requirements – this streamlines the build process and has the end user dealing just with one entity, being Iveco, for all aspects of the build.
