IVECO S-Way in Aussie pre-launch testing

The New IVECO S-Way has been quietly undergoing testing in fleets in Australia to ensure it’s fit for purpose prior to its launch late this year

The first IVECO S-Way vehicles arrived on Australian shores last year to begin a comprehensive local testing and validation program, overseen by IVECO Australia’s engineering division, ahead of the model’s launch here in the fourth quarter
.
Combining advanced technology, high levels of connectivity as well as a strong focus on sustainability and low total cost of ownership, IVECO is looking to the S-Way to boost sales in Australia and New Zealand.

As a part of the local validation program, the trucks have been running in single and B-double trailer combinations, as well as in rigid setup, and have covered several hundred thousand kilometres fully loaded and in real-world operating conditions, including during our summer.

As well as mileage accumulation, IVECO is closely evaluating collective load measurement and undertaking a full cooling system evaluation and localisation program, to ensure the models are ready to perform in the demanding Australian conditions.

Along with this focus on driveline performance, IVECO said it is conducting a series of suspension and braking tests while also evaluating many of the vehicles’ new technology features including GPS predictive drive capabilities.

The testing program also incorporates several exercises to evaluate fit and finish including door seal and noise reduction performance, while also evaluating a number of IVECO genuine accessories.

IVECO Australia Senior Engineer, David Dunlop, said that the S-Way was an important release for the company, and that the engineering team had been progressing to schedule with the trials and preparations for certification.

“Testing undertaken to date has seen the S-Way evaluation vehicles perform extremely well,” Mr Dunlop said.

“We’re focused on ensuring the new models arrive tailored specifically to meet our demanding Australian operating conditions and applications for long distances, high speed, loads and temperatures, making them a valuable addition to any fleet.

“Having now spent a number of months in and around the new S-Way, I know that future customers will be extremely pleased with these next-generation heavy-duty trucks from IVECO.”

In Europe, the S-Way is fitted with the Cursor engine in 9.0-litre, 11.0-litre and 13.0-litre capacities with power ratings from 310 to 570hp. Torque figures are from 1300Nm to 2500Nm.

IVECO Europe says the 12-speed Hi-Tronix automated transmission with electronic clutch offers the most advanced technology in its category, best-in-class torque-to-weight ratio and long transmission oil change intervals.

The S-Way is also fitted with the Hi-Cruise GPS predictive driving system which offers functions such as eco-roll, predictive gear shifting and predictive cruise control using state-of-the-art GPS mapping technology.

Exactly what specs the S-Ways that are coming here will have has not been announced nor has a firm launch date, but we'll keep you posted as more information is released.
