Iveco tackles the Silk Way Rally

Dakar winners back up for another 10,000km torture test
The Dakar-winning Petronas De Rooy Iveco Team is participating in the grueling Silk Way Rally for the first time this year, campaigning two rally-prepared Powerstars and a Trakker.
The 10,000 kilometre event began on July 7 following a ceremonial event in Moscow’s Red Square, en route to China via Kazakhstan where the racers will arrive on July 22 after having competed across 14 race stages.
Competitors are expected to confront a wide range of extremely demanding conditions over the course of the race in a true test of their resilience and the mechanical integrity of their vehicles.
Iveco Australia Marketing Manager, Darren Swenson, said events such as the Silk Way Rally were important for brand building.
“Large-scale international race events such as the Silk Way Rally and the Dakar Rally provide truck manufacturers with a platform to showcase their wares on a global scale – for truck brands, there are not many opportunities to do this,” Mr Swenson said.
“With models such as the Daily 4x4, Eurocargo 4x4, Trakker 4x4 and 6x6 and Astra 6x6 and 8x8, Iveco has one of the most complete off-road ranges available in Australia spanning 4495kg to 48,000kg GVM.
“Participating and performing strongly in rallies such as Silk Way, increases awareness providing a positive rub-off for domestic ranges.”
