Kahn launches baby Flying Huntsman

British tuner shows saner four-wheeled short-wheelbase Defender ute; ditches V8 for 2.2-litre diesel

British turner Kahn Design has followed up the mad six-wheeled Flying Huntsman it unveiled at the recent Geneva motor show (click here for the story on sister site, carsales.com.au) with a shorter version based on the 90-inch Land Rover Defender.

Called the Flying Huntsman 105 Pick Up, the long nose carries over from the 6x6 (some 400mm longer than standard) but the new ute packs a shorter 115-inch wheelbase.

This, says Kahn, brings handling improvements over the shorter standard Defender. As well as the longer wheelbase, the width of the Huntsman grows by an incredible six inches (now 154mm) over the standard Defender. The brakes and suspension have also been beefed up.

This width increase provides for a more spacious and comfortable interior, which now has racing seats and a leather-wrapped dash.

Kahn hasn't quoted performance for its small ute but expect it to be a powered by a boosted version of the current 88kW 2.2-litre oiler, which manages to crawl to 100km/h in 14.7 seconds.

Prices, meanwhile, command a huge premium over the regular Defender with the Flying Huntsman 105 Pick Up starting from $A107,000 in the UK.

Last month at the Geneva motor show, Kahn owner and design boss Afzal Kahn said that the British tuner had received interest for the Flying Huntsman from Australian buyers but did not confirm if, or when, his reinterpreted Defender would become available here.
