PACCAR has claimed top honours at the recent American Truck Dealers (ATD) Convention and Expo in San Franciso, with its T880 vocational truck being voted 2015 ATD Truck of the Year.
Following a series of test drives, a panel of expert judges voted the T880 as offering the best blend of ability, innovation, comfort, safety and design.
While the T880 isn't available in Australia, it's winning considerable praise in the US market, where it's being pressed into a wide range of roles – from tippers to agitators, logging to refuse applications.
The truck is powered by PACCAR's MX-13 13-litre engine, the in-line six-cylinder unit rated up to 500hp and 1850ft-lb. It's available in both day cab and sleeper formats.
According to Preston Feight, the General Manager for Kenworth in the USA, the accolade is welcome recognition for the effort invested in the truck's development.
"The Kenworth T880 establishes a new standard of excellence and builds upon our heritage of quality, innovation and technology to produce industry-leading, rugged and reliable vocational trucks," he said.
"This 2015 ATD Truck of the Year award reflects the many positive comments we have received from our customers about the T880's outstanding performance, driver comfort and quiet cab."
It's the third ATD title to go Kenworth's way in recent years: it also claimed ATD Heavy Duty Commercial Truck of the Year for its T680 in 2013 and T700 in 2011.
