Key freight route map released

The Government has unveiled an online and interactive map that details key road and rail freight routes

The Australian Government, working with State and Territory Governments through the Transport and Infrastructure Council, has unveiled an online map that shows key freight routes throughout Australia.

The online tool allows users to zoom in and out and details primary and secondary road freight routes, rail lines, ports, airports and intermodal facilities, along with road train assembly areas.

Major resources are also detailed, including mines and oil and gas facilities, while each layer of data can be added or removed as desired.

"The interactive map will help people develop a greater understanding of our national land freight system and the online format allows users to overlay other base-maps and datasets, and zoom in to a high level of detail," said the Deputy Prime Minister, Warren Truss.

"Future development of the maps will further support planning and investment decisions, regulatory purposes and customer service features for the transport and logistics industry."
