Kristi Walker, the recently appointed General Manager of Freightliner Australia, has landed in the thick of the action, arriving in Melbourne from the US on Wednesday, April 2, in time for Freightliner’s 25th anniversary media event and the start of the 2014 International Truck, Trailer & Equipment Show.
Previously serving as the Manager of Sales Operations for Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA) since December 2011, Walker has worked in the Daimler family for 11 years and is no stranger to the Freightliner brand, for which she has previously held the position of DTNA’s Australia/Pacific market manager.
At a media presentation in the Seaworks facility in Williamstown, in which Freightliner acknowledged its 25 years of operations in Australia and unveiled its Coronado 114 25th Anniversary Edition, Ms Walker said she was looking forward to settling into her new home and taking the brand to new heights.
“What a great way to start the job, by celebrating the 25th anniversary of Freightliner,” she said.
“Most of my career so far has been spent supporting and managing the Australian market, so although I’m not an Aussie for me it’s a bit of a homecoming. It’s a real privilege to manage Freightliner in such a beautiful country and my family and I are looking forward to making our home here.
“DTNA has made a long-term commitment to international sales and we’ve grown our international sales business by nearly 200 per cent since 2009. The potential here in Australia is huge and we’re certain we’ll see similar growth here in coming years.
“I’m thrilled to be responsible for the Freightliner brand and our sales and service in Australia and New Zealand. I’ve been with Freightliner since the beginning of my career and I know we’ve got a winning team that has proven itself over time.
“We’ve got great customers and suppliers who need us and will work with us to make our success here a reality and we’ve got the resources and collective commitment we need from top management to the line employees to take our talent and resources and make market leadership happen.”
