Macleay Valley Transport, a road transport firm based in Kempsey, on NSW’s Mid North Coast, says it’s reaping the benefits of switching to Kumho’s KRD01 truck tyres about four years ago.
According to company principal, Bob Fuller, the tyres deliver mileage gains of up to 40 per cent on drive axles and up to 35 per cent on steer axles, although it was the KRD01’s attractive purchase price that initially caught his eye.
“The driving force was the price because the Kumhos were very competitive; in this business it’s all about cents per kilometre and making sure your costs are low without affecting reliability,” he says.
“Having said that, the Kumhos have performed exceptionally well and are returning much better mileage than anything else.”
Fuller says his fleet, which comprises 50 prime movers and over 70 trailers, now regularly achieves mileages of over 200,000km on steer axles and over 250,000km on drive axles on Kumho KRD01 tyres.
“The Kumhos are well ahead on price and on longevity,” he says.
Since Fuller purchased the firm from its then owner, Toll, in 1997, Macleay Valley Transport has grown to become one of the region’s biggest employers. It has 80 staff, with that figure encompassing 65 drivers who collectively rack up over 3,000,000km annually.
The firm has full accreditation with the Trucksafe program, which involves close monitoring of fatigue management, mass management and vehicle maintenance.
Fuller says Kumho's KRD01 tyres have proven popular both with himself and his drivers.
“The drivers really like them because they perform and we have only experienced a minimal number of punctures, so we've enjoyed a very good relationship with Kumho since switching to its tyres four years ago,” he says.
