Britain’s Leyland Trucks recently celebrated a production milestone, with the 5000th DAF to feature a factory-manufactured-and-mounted PACCAR body rolling off the line at the end of March, 2014.
The model in question is an LF delivery truck bound for Britain’s Royal Mail, where it will join a fleet of over 700 other PACCAR-bodied DAF vehicles.
A subsidiary of PACCAR – owners of Kenworth, DAF, and Peterbilt – since 1998, Leyland Trucks is unusual in that it assembles and installs bodies on its truck production lines. Leyland says this ensures its vehicles achieve their maximum efficiency, while also hastening the registration process.
In a small ceremony to mark the occasion, the 5000th factory-bodied DAF was presented to Royal Mail’s Director of Fleet and Maintenance Services, Paul Gatti (pictured, left) by Leyland Truck’s Managing Director, Ron Augustyn.
