Mack Trucks Australia has unveiled its largest sleeper cab yet, with the all-new 70-inch unit promising to take long-haul driver comfort to the next level.
To be eventually produced for both the Mack Super-Liner and Titan, but not the Anthem, the new cab was revealed on the Mack Trucks stand at the 2023 Brisbane Truck Show today (May 18), and will be available in a variety of configurations.
The company says the new sleeper has been designed “with the needs of the driver front of mind, with exceptional comfort and handling from behind the wheel as well as a spacious cabin environment that offers class-leading comfort once the shift behind the wheel is done”.
According to Mack Trucks Australia Vice President, Tom Chapman, the new sleeper will comprehensively address the demands of long-haul drivers.
“We saw a huge opportunity with the increased length rules for road-train-plated vehicles,” he said.
“There was a massive demand there for big living quarters for applications where drivers are away for a week or more at a time. It’s a family sleeper to the 36 [inch sleeper], so it makes good use of the head height above the driver’s seat. It’s a nice aerodynamic roof line, but it’s a full stand-up, turn-around and walk-through sleeper.”
It’s the first time the new sleeper has been revealed, said Mr Chapman.
“It was a pretty well-kept secret for a while, moving it around under cover of darkness to paint shops and whatnot,” he said. “Sales start on this in coming months – we haven’t yet opened the order book – but we will be building and delivering to customers around the third quarter of next year.”
The new addition comes as Mack Trucks celebrates 60 years of manufacturing in Australia. The brand is marking the milestone at this year’s Brisbane Truck Show with the construction of a life-size Lego Mack Anthem on Southbank’s Little Stanley Street, near the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre, while also featuring a number of iconic heritage Mack models at the Heritage Truck Show at Bfrisbane's Rocklea Showgrounds.
The 2023 Brisbane Truck Show is underway now and will conclude on Sunday, May 21.
