Volvo Group Australia has announced the appointment of Tony O’Connell to the role of Vice President of Mack Trucks Sales, with Mr O’Connell to commence the role in October 2024.
The appointment comes after Mack Trucks Australia’s previous VP, Tom Chapman, took on the role of VP at Volvo Trucks Australia in April 2024.
Mr O’Connell brings a wealth of experience to the Mack Trucks Australia team. After initially signing on in a Mack aftermarket role for Truck Centre WA in Darwin in 2004, he built his leadership and strategic expertise at Volvo Group Australia over two decades, holding roles including Vice President of Aftermarket and then Vice President of Volvo Trucks Sales Australia, before more recently serving as the Managing Director of Volvo Malaysia.
Mr O’Connell said he was eager to get his teeth into the new role.
“I’m looking forward to taking the reins of the Mack Trucks brand here in Australia,” he said. “For over a century, Mack has forged a well-deserved reputation for reliability, durability, and efficiency and I am excited to join and contribute to that legacy.”
The appointment comes at an exciting time for Mack Trucks, with the recent launch of its new Euro 6 range and the new flagship 780hp 17-litre MP11 engine.
“I am fortunate to lead the Mack Trucks brand during this exciting time, as we navigate and shape the new era of the transport industry,” Mr O’Connell added.
Martin Merrick, President and CEO of Volvo Group Australia, said the brand was in safe hands.
“As VP of Mack Trucks Sales, Tony will bring his deep industry knowledge, strategic acumen, and passion for excellence to help drive customer success and take the Mack Trucks brand to the next level,” he said.
“It’s fantastic to welcome Tony back to Australia. I’m convinced the experience he has gained in the wider Volvo Group over the past three-and-a-half years will add value to VGA.
“With Tony O’Connell at the helm, Mack is well-positioned to advance our transformation journey here in Australia.”
