Australian V8 Supercars Championship outfit DJR Team Penske has announced MAN Truck & Bus will be its latest “naming rights partner” at the Sydney Motorsport Park SuperSprint this weekend (August 22-23).
Revealing a striking black and silver livery, the MAN partnership continues the unique-to-V8-Supercars strategy of rolling sponsorship in 2015, which sees major signage and focus move to different sponsorship partners as the season progresses.
"MAN Trucks is the brand of choice for the team and the graphics and design of the car will deliver a very impactful look on track," said DJR Team Penske Managing Director, Ryan Story.
The sponsorship is expected to deliver MAN some much needed brand awareness in the Australian marketplace. Despite a massive presence in Europe, the German manufacturer has struggled build market share in Australia – at the end of June 2015 MAN accounted for just 2.2 per cent of new heavy-duty registrations and 1.1 per cent of medium-duty registrations.
With this new livery the considerable global influence of Roger Penske will help place MAN firmly in the spotlight in the Australian domestic marketplace. Its timing is especially favourable, with the company’s new 15.2-litre, Euro 6, six-cylinder D38-engined TGX prime mover arriving Down Under. The truck made its debut it at the Brisbane Truck Show in May.
President of Penske Transportation Group International, Randall Seymore, said he was pleased to use V8 Supercars to showcase the brand.
"The MAN TGX 26-530 is used by the racing team to haul the equipment and race cars around the country for the V8 Supercar Championship, so this is a great connection," he said.
Marcus Ambrose will take to the track on Friday (August 21) for a co-driver-only session, for some crucial time behind the wheel in the FG X Falcon ahead of the looming Pirtek Enduro Cup. Pye will then assume his regular driving duties for the SMP SuperSprint, which will comprise two 60km events on the Saturday and one 200km event on the Sunday.
