Penske Australia has announced that for a limited time its Safety Pack Plus deals will be available on its top-selling prime movers.
The deal will include a full suite of safety features so owners and operators will know they’re driving and operating one of the safest vehicles on the road, ensuring transport businesses are meeting and exceeding their responsibilities under the Chain of Responsibility (COR) compliance framework.
But there’s more to this deal than that. Penske is offering all MAN TGS and TGX buyers fantastic warranties and up-time deals, as well as razor-sharp pricing that makes owning an MAN an even smarter decision.
Standard safety features on the trucks include MAN’s BrakeMatic package with electronic braking system and anti-slip regulator.
MAN’s electronic BrakeMatic engine brake management system coordinates the functions of the EBS service brake with the engine brake or MAN EVB rocker arm brake (depending on the equipment). The system’s functions include priority activation of the engine brake before the service brake. Specifically, during the free travel of the brake pedal, either the engine brake or the MAN EVB rocker arm brake is initiated prior to the service brake’s activation.
The system also applies ESP compensatory braking in the event of understeer or oversteer, bringing the vehicle back under control.
An additional layer of protection comes courtesy of MAN’s Lane Guard System (LGS). This electronic system constantly monitors the vehicle’s position within its lane. If the driver strays from their lane without activating the indicator, an acoustic warning will sound. Depending on the direction in which the driver has strayed, the loudspeaker on the left- or right-hand side sounds a rumble strip noise, alerting the driver.
Other safety features include rain-sensing wipers, heated electric mirrors, hill start assist, adaptive radar cruise control, auto-dipping head lights, LED taillights and a very neat cornering light.
The cornering light supplements normal low-beam headlights at speeds of up to 40km/h. It is activated when the driver flicks on the indicator or, on vehicles fitted with ESP, when the steering wheel is turned far enough to the left of right.
This improves vision in instances of low light and/or foggy conditions, while providing additional side lighting that increases awareness of the truck for pedestrians and other road users.
Warranty for the TGS will be four years or 600,000 kilometres on the driveline and the entire vehicle, while on TGX it will be four years and 800,000 kilometres for the driveline and three years and 450,000 kilometres on the entire vehicle.
MAN is also offering full Roadside Assist packages for both the TGS and TGX. The Roadside Assist will include emergency mechanical breakdown, as well as help if you run out of fuel, need a tyre or wheel change, experience a flat battery – even if you lose your keys or lock them in the truck.
The backup also includes glass repair if you break your windscreen, a message service, and even an interpreter if you need one. Of course, it also includes towing and accident co-ordination, providing expert help when you need it most.
As part of its Uptime Support included in the Safety Plus package, MAN will even provide a loan vehicle if the Roadside Assist team can’t get your truck mobile again.
MAN recently released its telematics package, which is a factory-backed system through Microlise called MAN Opti-Connect – the same system as used in the UK. Customised for Australian conditions, it gives owners and operators a complete oversight into what their trucks are doing 24/7.
As part of the Safety Pack Plus offer, MAN is including the telematics along with the first two years of software subscription.
The MAN TGS and TGX are the real workhorses of the MAN fleet. But while they are workhorses, they certainly place their drivers within a comfortable work environment.
Both are powered by MAN’s 13L D26 six-cylinder turbocharged engine featuring common-rail injection, achieving an output of 540hp. And with excellent low-down torque, the power produced is more than you will need.
The power and fuel efficiency of the TGS/X is further reinforced by the 12-speed TipMatic automated transmission with an intuitive shift strategy that delivers additional fuel efficiencies and enhances MAN’s unrivalled performance.
The TGS is the truck that is mainly used for metro or intrastate work, while the TGX – with its taller and luxurious XLX cab – is the big linehaul truck for those interstate runs.
Both feature MAN’s attention to detail when it comes to comfort and ergonomics. All the TGS and TGX models come standard with an ISRI multi-adjustable driver’s seat with heating and three-way
lumbar support.
Then there’s the multi-function steering wheel with integrated stereo, phone, dashboard interactive display menus, cruise control and speed limiter controls, so the driver doesn’t have to take his or her eyes off the road to utilise these important functions.
The stereo system features a touchscreen with integrated hands-free Bluetooth, Bluetooth streaming, USB and auxiliary inputs; all running through a six-speaker sound system with sub-woofer.
All models have a central 36-litre fridge and plenty of under-bunk storage.
So it’s easy to see that with all these features for free and a truly attention-grabbing price, the MAN TGS and TGX should be on your buying list.
