MAN unveils 'Tattoo Trucks'

German truck maker MAN is turning heads in Hannover with a display of six stunning custom-painted trucks
With the hours counting down to the opening of the IAA commercial vehicle expo in Hannover, Germany, MAN is capitalising on the trucking world's focussed attention by unveiling six spectacular 'Tattoo Trucks', each featuring a custom paint job that serves as a visual interpretation of a prominent German musician's songs.
Displayed in front of Hannover Central Station, each truck's paint scheme represents a song from the latest album of German rock star, Peter Maffay. The trucks on display feature the winning efforts submitted to an international design competition, with the winning entry (pictured) entered by talented designer, Sebastian Bieler.
Bieler, who won Euro 10,000 for his efforts, was judged to have delivered the best artistic interpretation of a Maffay song based on visual effect, creativity, and workmanship.
The six featured designs were applied by revered airbrush experts 'smart art' in an aircraft hanger near Munich over July to mid-September. A mixture of vibrant acrylic paints was finally covered by a high-gloss clear-coat.
After the IAA show the trucks will be displayed at the MAN Truck Forum in Munich, while from early next year they will be used to transport Maffay's stage equipment across Germany on his next tour.
The IAA runs in Hannover from September 25 to October 2, 2014.
