MaxiTRANS is gearing up once more for R U OK? Day, the mental health awareness initiative that this year falls on Thursday, September 12.
R U OK? is a not-for-profit and national suicide-prevention charity that shines a light on the prevalence of mental health issues in Australia. It encourages people to look after their colleagues and loved ones by simply asking "Are you okay?", and especially to anyone who appears to be struggling with life.
One in seven Australians will experience depression in their lifetime and one in four will experience an anxiety-related mental health issue. One in six Australians is currently grappling with depression, anxiety, or both.
Suicide claims the lives of over eight Australian each day, with men three times more likely to take their own life than women.
Australian Trucking Association Chair Geoff Crouch has previously described suicide and mental health as a "national emergency" for the road transport industry and the wider community.
As it has since 2017, Australian trailer manufacturer MaxiTRANS is getting behind R U OK? Day by donating one per cent of all sales made on September 12 to the R U OK? organisation, which will help the charity continue its mental health awareness work.
"We kindly ask all our customers to help us support this great cause on September 12," says MaxiTRANS.
"You can assist, by actually purchasing parts or placing your order on the day and know that 1% of the sale will go a long way."
Do you know someone in your workplace who might be having a difficult time? Don't wait until September 12 to check in with them. If you're unsure of how to go about it, visit www.ruok.org.au/how-to-ask.
