Mercedes-Benz Trucks has chosen the looming 2014 International Truck, Trailer & Equipment Show in Melbourne to unveil its innovative new dual-control 6x2 concept model, the Econic.
It will be the world debut of the concept machine when the four-day exhibition, to be held at Melbourne’s Royal Showgrounds over April 3-6, opens its doors.
Designed primarily with the waste industry in mind, the Econic is also the first of the new Euro VI generation of Mercedes-Benz trucks to reach Australia.
General Manager for Mercedes-Benz Truck & Bus, Justin Whitford, said the local division of Daimler AG was elated to be hosting the global premiere.
“We are thrilled to be holding the world debut of the dual-control Econic concept truck at the 2014 Melbourne Truck Show,” he said.
“Obviously at this stage the truck is a concept but we are very keen to gauge the interest within the waste industry and to build on the success of the current-generation Econic. We are also pleased to be previewing the first of the new-generation of Mercedes-Benz Trucks in Australia.”
The concept truck is powered by a Euro VI compliant six-cylinder diesel engine featuring Mercedes-Benz’s BlueTec 6 technology with Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR), Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) and particulate filters. It produces a claimed 300hp (220kW) and 1200Nm.
The cab now features a far more advanced design and the payload has been retained, despite the added weight of the extra Euro VI components, through weight savings in the chassis. Superb vision and easy ingress and egress to and from the cabin combine to enhance the user-friendly nature of the concept Econic.
