Mercedes-Benz eEconic to star at Sydney show

Mercedes-Benz will present the all-electric eEconic, a ground-breaking truck that not only produces no local emissions, but also operates in near silence.

The company will soon begin a local validation program for the eEconic that will become available in Australia and New Zealand in the near future.

The electric eEconic adds to the positives of the diesel Econic, which was developed from the ground-up to work in densely populated areas and is known for its excellent vision, practicality and active safety features.

With production starting last year, the eEconic has impressed European customers with its advanced design, strong performance and efficiency.

The eEconic uses much of the same electric architecture as the Mercedes-Benz Trucks eActros, which is currently part of a validation program in Australia and New Zealand.

Daimler Truck already has considerable experience with electric trucks in Australia. It was the first manufacturer to launch an all-electric truck when Fuso introduced the pioneering eCanter locally in 2021.

The eCanter took out the Trucksales Innovation Award for 2022.

Mercedes-Benz Trucks Australia Pacific Director, Andrew Assimo, says the eEconic will be an exciting feature of the AWRE event.

“The waste and recycling industry is determined to reduce its transport carbon emissions in a practical way, so the eEconic is a perfect fit,” Mr Assimo said.

“We are thrilled to be able to have it on our stand in Sydney before it gets to work as part of our validation trial,” he added.

While Mercedes-Benz Trucks is keen to move forward with battery electric technology, it is also proud to help traditional internal combustion engine customers drive down their emissions.

Mercedes-Benz Trucks led the way in Australia with the first full range of Euro 6 heavy trucks with the new Actros in 2016 and its fuel efficiency is well known.
