Trucks are now banned from using Rosanna Road in Rosanna, in the city's north-east, from 10pm to 6am.
The trial curfew came in effect yesterday (August 20) and also affects Greensborough Highway, Waiora Road and Waterdale Road.
This latest measure follows an expansion of curfews rolled out in the inner-western Melbourne suburbs of Footscray and Yarraville (pictured) in January.
Ivanhoe state Labor MP Anthony Carbines said the 12-month trial will also include setting up a community reference group to gauge progress.
"These new curfews have been carefully planned to strike a balance for the community and truck operators," he said.
Victoria’s peak transport industry group, The Victorian Transport Association, suggests the curfew will cause further congestion.
"The VTA generally does not support truck curfews and bans because they are a lazy and short-term approach to the larger underlying problem of the lack of connectivity of our road network," said Victorian Transport Association CEO Peter Anderson (pictured).
"The problem with the curfews being trialled in the north east is that with no viable alternative north-south road, drivers making early-morning runs will wait until after the curfew to complete their run, creating a surge of heavy vehicles just when people are going to work or school."
