Another four thousand permits will not be needed for special purpose vehicles

Another four thousand truck permits will no longer be needed, at the end of a week that has already seen the industry’s red tape slashed, the CEO of the Australian Trucking Association, Christopher Melham, said today.

The NHVR today released its National Class 1 Special Purpose Vehicle Notice, which covers heavy vehicles like cranes and concrete pumps. Operators of special purpose vehicles that meet the conditions of the notice will no longer need to apply for special permits.

"The notice will remove the need for 4000 truck permits a year, which brings the total number of permits slashed this week to 6500," Mr Melham said.

"It’s not every week that a regulator can say it has eliminated 6,500 pieces of unnecessary paperwork, but that’s what the NHVR has achieved.”

The release of the special purpose vehicle notice today follows Thursday’s release of the new PBS truck and dog network. The PBS truck and dog network will remove the need for the trucking industry to apply for and later renew some 1500 permits.
