At that time when one calendar year gives way to the next, it’s always interesting to reflect on the year that was and see exactly what truck brands and models got people clicking across our many thousands of truck listings.
While sometimes the top-selling trucks and brands are in lockstep with our top-performing classifieds listings, there’s often the odd curve ball too – and strong interest in models that have long since disappeared from sparkling new-truck showrooms.
So, without further ado, let’s take a snapshot of the popular brands and models that were in high demand here at trucksales throughout the year…
In a result that often mirrors the sales trend in Australia’s heavy-duty truck market, it was Kenworth that was our number one, most searched heavy-duty trucking brand on trucksales over 2024. Built in PACCAR Australia’s Bayswater production facility in Victoria, there was broad interest across both new and used Kenworth trucks across a wide range of models. Topping the chart was Kenworth’s T909, followed by the K200 series and the T610. And while the K220 is the newest cabover kid on the block, but there was also strong interest in older models too, like the K108 and K104, underlining the brand’s enduring appeal.
Falling under the umbrella of the Volvo Group, Mack was the second-most popular brand on trucksales over the year. And which model garnered the most attention? None other than Mack’s line-haul expert, the Super-Liner, followed by its off-road-spec sibling, the Titan. After that it was Mack’s work-site workhorse, the Trident, that was getting plenty of love, ahead of the latest dog in the kennel, the Mack Anthem.
Volvo of course offers a broad array of heavy-duty models spanning all sorts of applications and, these days, a variety of powertrains, both diesel and electric. But for 2024 it was firmly up the bigger end of the family where the most interest lay. Seemed a whole lot of people were searching for a new or used Volvo FH in 2024, with plenty of interest in the Volvo FH16 in particular.
Meanwhile, over at Daimler Trucks, the Freightliner fans were busily searching for one model in particular ahead of the rest – and one you can no longer buy new. We’ll give you a clue – it’s a cabover. Okay, okay, while all the buzz surrounding new Freightliners is reserved for Cascadias these days, it was none other than Freightliner’s Argosy that was featuring strongly across our many listings, which perhaps isn’t that big a surprise when you take into consideration the gazillion of them still plying Aussie roads.
Another brand to throw us an older model rather than a new one, it was Western Star that rounded out our top five most popular heavy-duty truck brands here at trucksales through 2024. And the ’Star performer was… the Western Star 4800 FX, although of course there’s been plenty of interest across the new X-Series models too. Western Star just managed to sneak into our top five in 2024, only just edging out Mercedes-Benz and its ubiquitous Actros.
