MX-13 spearheads PACCAR's ITTES display

The introduction of an additional Kenworth engine grabs the limelight at ‘PACCAR World' at the 2014 International Truck, Trailer & Equipment Show

In the hours counting down to the opening of the 2014 International Truck, Trailer & Equipment Stand, due to be held at Melbourne’s Royal Showgrounds over April 3-6, PACCAR Australia has announced it will be displaying 12 of its Kenworth and DAF prime movers, along with the MX-13 engine now available in the former’s T409 and T409SAR (pictured) models.

After more than 1.6 million kilometres of testing and evaluation, PACCAR’s MX-13 engine is now available in Kenworth’s T4 series trucks. Available in DAF models here since 2007, the integration of the 12.9-litre, six-cylinder, turbo-diesel MX-13 fills an important niche in the Kenworth line-up which, after losing engines from Detroit Diesel and Cat in the past, has more recently only been populated by Cummins options.

According to PACCAR Australia’s Director of Sales and Marketing, Andrew Hadjikakou, the addition of the MX-13 to Kenworth’s range gives Australian truck operators an efficient, proven and potent heavy-haulage option.

“It [the MX-13] utilises next-generation technologies to deliver higher levels of fuel economy, reliability and performance from a very quiet powerplant,” he said.

“Several Kenworth customers involved in the trial period were so impressed they have already purchased additional MX-13-powered Kenworth T409 and T409SARs.”

The engine, which has been altered to suit the conventional Kenworth models as opposed to the cab-over DAFs from which it’s been sourced, was showcased to the trucking media at a drive day at a Victorian automotive proving ground just prior the opening of the ITTES. Check back at Trucksales.com.au shortly for the full report on that event.

Also at the PACCAR World stand at the ITTES will be Kenworth’s new cab interior, which is set to be introduced to the marque’s full range of conventional trucks from May 2014. The new cab represents a major upgrade, says PACCAR Australia, with a host of innovations to enhance driver comfort, safety, and productivity.

Taking the opulence to an even higher level will be Kenworth’s new Business Class interior, with niceties including steering-wheel-mounted finger-tip controls, a privacy curtain and a curved, flowing dash.

Hadjikakou says the new cab and Business Class interior stem from the feedback received after the unveiling of Kenworth’s new K200 interior, which will also be on display at the ITTES.

“We were overwhelmed by the positive response to the K200’s new interior,” he says.

“Operators were impressed with the driver-friendly innovations and overall spaciousness and comfort. That feedback inspired us to go one step further with the cabs in our conventional trucks.”

The PACCAR World display will be located at the Town Square Hoeker at this year’s ITTES. For show information, including transport options and opening times, visit www.trucktrailershow.com.au.
