Navistar, the company behind the International brand of trucks, has begun deliveries of trucks to South Korea, making it the first US truck maker to do so since the signing of the US-Korea Free Trade Agreement in March of 2012.
The company recently began supplying International ProStar trucks to the Asian nation, where International currently has a total of six dealerships.
Tom Clevinger, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Navistar Global Export Operations, said the commencement of supply to South Korea was an historic milestone.
“Navistar is proud to be one of the first US manufacturers to cultivate new commerce with South Korea,” he said.
“In the United States, the ProStar was used as a benchmark for developing aerodynamic standards. Under the free trade agreement, Korean truck drivers will now be able to experience the cost savings associated with the improved aerodynamics and fuel efficiency of aero-nosed on-road commercial trucks.”
Produced in Springfield, Ohio, the ProStar models heading to South Korea have been modified to comply with specific Korean market requirements, said Clevinger.
