New Chair for ATA Safety Committee

Tim Knowles was recently appointed Chair of the ATA Safety Committee, following the retirement of Mark Sullivan
The Australian Trucking Association recently appointed Tim Knowles as Chair of the ATA Safety Committee. The committee provides the ATA’s General Council with truck safety advice and also helps to develop industry policy.
Mr Knowles was President of the Queensland Trucking Association from 2005 to 2008, and was appointed as an ATA Director last year. He is also Director and Operations Manager at Brisbane-based Speedie Contractors – a road-surfacing specialist with a fleet of 32 rigid trucks and prime movers.
His appointment follows the retirement of the outgoing ATA Safety Committee Chair, Mark Sullivan.
Mr Knowles said he will be focussing on improvements in truck maintenance in particular in his new role.
“Because of my background in the dangerous goods sector, I’m also keen to see more work done on preventing rollovers and pushing for mandatory electronic stability control,” he said.
Mr Knowles thanked the efforts of his predecessor.
“I want to build on the safety gains that the ATA achieved under Mark’s leadership of the committee,” he said.
