Inverell Shire Council, in north-eastern NSW, has just added two new Hino 700 Series trucks to its current line-up of Hino 300 and 500 Series models, providing a welcome boost to the council’s gravel re-sheeting fleet.
While the 300 Series trucks are charged with refuse transport, the 500 and now 700 Hinos will carry payloads of up to 13 tonnes of rock and gravel.
The new trucks are both fitted with Eaton’s RTLO 18-speed manual transmission, which the council says is a must on some of the shire’s steep and often rough roads.
Inverell Shire Council Fleet Manager Greg Schuman said the new Hinos had their work cut out for them.
“The Hinos are covering up to 1000km per day every day, five days a week, at an average of 100km/h for over eight hours a day, fully loaded on some of the rougher roads you’d see in Australia,” he said.
“The braking and stability of the Hinos is very noticeable – I'd compare pulling up in one of our 13-tonne gravel-laden trucks to pulling up a car, it’s that good.”
Schuman said there was simply no reason to look any further than Hino.
"All our drivers just love the Hinos," he said.
"We started buying them many years ago, and when we get a good run out of something we like to stick with them. The Hinos are more reliable than anything else we've used and the prices are very favourable."
