New Iveco Daily boosts transport company

A new Iveco 70C Daily has allowed former motor mechanic, Phil Charlton, to start a new door-to-door vehicle transportation business
Having swung the spanners for 15 years working at high-end European automotive dealerships, Phil identified a niche in the market to provide a premium door-to-door vehicle relocation service in the South East Queensland area.
“There was a gap in the market for an efficient relocation service, particularly for single vehicle moves,” Phil said.
“With most other operators moving multiple vehicles you can be waiting around a long time for their trucks to arrive as they’re making several drops.
“Handling a single vehicle at a time, our service for customers is much more efficient, prompt and personalised.
“And with my background as a mechanic, there’s added peace of mind for customers knowing that the car will be moved carefully and sympathetically, especially broken down vehicles.”
Phil is currently running one new Daily, with a second to join the fleet in the new year. Phil settled on the 70C model (meaning seven-tonne GVM with dual rear wheels), which provided him with the low tare weight he needed to legally carry a payload of up to 4000kg.
The truck is powered by a 3.0-litre turbo-diesel engine producing 170hp and 430Nm of torque and is matched the six-speed overdrive manual transmission.
The new Daily is fitted with a Cobra fixed car carrier deck which is over five metres in length, providing ample space to move even large four-wheel-drives and dual-cab utes. The tray also features a 12,000 pound winch for fast and secure loading of ‘non-runners’ and is fitted with Iveco toolboxes to house tools and equipment.
Prior to selecting the new Daily, Phil undertook considerable research and also drove a number of competing vehicles, but nothing was as good as the Iveco, both on paper and from behind the wheel.
“There was no other brand of light truck that could offer the payload that I needed,” Phil said.
“Then there’s the Daily’s generous 40,000 kilometre service intervals which provides a low cost of ownership and reduced downtime.
“Visually the new Daily also looks very modern and smart, I get a lot of comments about how great it looks and people often take photos of it.”
Since launching Vehicle Transport Group in early October, the company has been in high demand with a range of customers including car dealerships, private owners and even people attending functions who may have indulged in a drink or two too many.
“We’re exceeding all our targets and fast developing a strong and regular client base,” Phil said.
“As well as bringing on a second truck in the New Year, I’ll soon be adding a towbar package to the current Daily, we have a tandem-axle trailer in build and this will allow us the flexibility to transport a second vehicle if we need to.
“With the Daily’s 3500kg braked towing capacity and 10,700kg GCM, we have the capacity to transport two dual-cab four-wheel-drives at a time,” Phil concluded.
