Navistar has announced that its Australian operation, NC2 Global Australia, now has a new name: Navistar Auspac.
The wholly owned Navistar Inc subsidiary will continue to handle the importation and distribution of International and Cat trucks in the Australia/Pacific region, including New Zealand.
A recent press release said the operation’s existing staff would retain their roles.
According to Kevin Dennis, Navistar Auspac’s Managing Director, the new name underlines Navistar’s commitment to local markets.
“This is an extremely positive and timely change,” he said.
“Navistar sees growth opportunities in the Australian, New Zealand and Pacific markets, and we are committed to realising the potential.
“To have a major company like Navistar put its name to this region creates assurance for our current and future customers that they are dealing with a company that is totally dedicated to the truck business.
“It’s certainly refreshing to now be officially operating under one powerful and widely respected brand name.”
The name ‘NC2 Global’ reflected the 50/50 joint venture first entered into by Navistar and Caterpillar in 2009 to produce commercial vehicles and the first on-highway, Cat-branded trucks, with NC2 Global Australia manufacturing trucks in Tullamarine, Melbourne, from 2010.
The joint venture dissolved in 2011, the operation becoming a wholly owned Navistar subsidiary with production of Cat-branded trucks continuing under licence.
Australian production of the trucks ceased in 2012; since then the trucks have been sourced from a US manufacturing plant in Garland, Texas.
