New product: Pivotel communications

Pivotel offers a range of Personal Satellite Communicators to help you stay in touch no matter where your travels take you
For truckies plying Australia's lonely outback highways, Pivotel has a range of Personal Satellite Communicators that will maintain communications long after mobile phone coverage has ended.
The Spot 3 Satellite Messenger allows you to send a message to friends, family or colleagues to let them know you're safe, while its SOS function will alert emergency services if you need assistance in a life-threatening situation. The Spot 3 can be set up to send tracking updates every five, 10, 30 or 60 minutes, and the entire unit weighs just 160 grams with batteries. Users can power the Spot 3 with either lithium or rechargeable batteries, or the device can utilise in-vehicle power via its USB port.
Pivotel's inReach SE is a satellite-based two-way communications device that allows the user to both send and receive text messages or emails of up to 160 characters anywhere on the planet. The device allows others to track your whereabouts via a private MapShare web page, while it can also be linked to the user's Facebook and Twitter accounts for extra functionality. Also with an SOS function, the inReach SE can be paired with a smartphone or tablet to turn it into a GPS navigator, allowing the user to monitor their progress on a map.
The inReach Explorer builds on the inReach SE with an integrated GPS, allowing the user to create or view a route, mark waypoints, and record detailed GPS tracks. The user's distance and bearing to their destination can be displayed, while other features include a digital compass, barometric altimeter and an accelerometer. Like the inReach SE, the inReach Explorer has the same text and email messaging capability and an SOS function.
The Spot Trace is an ideal way for fleet operators and owner/drivers to protect their assets. Compact and easy to install, the Spot Trace will send a text message or email the instant the truck begins to move and allows the owner to track its movement at 10-minute intervals via a mobile phone or computer using Google Maps.
The Spot 3 retails for $199 while the inReach SE retails for $399 and the inReach Explorer retails for $499. The Spot Trace retails for $175. All four products also require a Basic Service Plan subscription.
