No bale-out in Richmond

Hay truck hits bridge and rolls in busy Melbourne suburb
A truck laden with 42 tonnes of hay has tipped on its side after crashing into the Swan Street Bridge in Richmond overnight (Aug 1).
Victorian police said the driver, on his way to Gippsland, was travelling on Swan Street, Richmond when he hit the bridge just before 1.30am.
The semi-trailer and hay continued skidding under the bridge, tipping as it came to rest on the driver’s side of the truck.
The driver, from South Australia, was not injured.
Motorists were urged to avoid Swan Street as it was closed between Punt Road and Lennox Street until about mid morning while the clean-up continued.
It is understood the hay had to be removed from the truck, and transported by two other trucks. The 1000 litres of diesel in the truck was drained and the truck was dragged out from under the bride before being righted.
The bridge was cleared of any damage before the road was re-opened to traffic.
